Xamarin to native Swift, with tests and CI/CD
Modular MVVM, comprehensive unit testing, Azure DevOps pipelines and stronger review standards for a ticket-validation app.
- Swift
- MVVM
- Protocol-oriented design
- XCTest
- Azure DevOps
- CI/CD
Context and problem
Xamlab's ticket-validation app was built with Xamarin and C#. The goal was a native Swift app that validated tickets faster and more reliably.
My role
As iOS Team Lead I led the migration, designed the target architecture, set up CI/CD and mentored the engineers on testing and review.
Architecture
A modular MVVM architecture with protocol-oriented design — views bind to view models, and services sit behind protocols so each layer can be tested.
Testing and reliability
- Comprehensive unit tests for the new Swift code.
- CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps.
- Higher pull-request and code review standards before release.
Results
Ticket validation became faster and more reliable, and the app's App Store rating improved.
Leadership
I mentored engineers in clean, modular architecture, and the review and testing practices were shared across the iOS and Android teams.
